Podcaster Claudia Reid talks to Power Lifter Rob Carbo

Good Morning New York, It seems like everything is back to normal with our little northeastern snow storm. I am pleased to say, I had to get this interview from the New Jersey Turnpike from the one and only Powerlifter Rob Carbo and this week he is going to be on Muscle Talk 101 radio to talk more about himself and what he plans to do 10 years from now in his career.

Would you ever consider bodybuilding or have you done it already?
I have competed in bodybuilding a few times. Placing 3rd in a NPC show in California and 2nd in WBFA Team USA and 4th in WBFA Worlds!!
What made you become a power lifter?
I have always lifted weights for sports and trying to get stronger. I started training for bodybuilding and in 1999 I did a competition and placed 3rd and thought I should have won, so I switched to powerlifting where I figured whoever was strongest would win, Guess I'm a sore loser.
Becoming the Bench Press Champion, Are you going for the 3X?
Yes. Actually I as landing on going for # 3 on 11/4/11 but I have had a nagging shoulder injury so I am going to hold off until next year.
Have you competed in the Arnold Classics? If so, How was the experience?
I have competed @ the Olympia Expo which was fun but not yet @ the Arnold Classic maybe next year!
When you were named 2011 APF Masters Champ in Powerlifting, Were you surprised? Or did you have a feeling you would win?
I won it at the APF Nationals in Ft Worth, Texas on May 15, 2011 my 56th birthday. I have not done a full power meet since 2008 because my shoulder wouldn't allow me to hold the bar behind my neck for squat, I started squatting again in April and decided to give it a shot.
Do you feel that powerlifting is being recognized more or less? why do you feel that way ?
Powerlifting is what it is! There are so many organizations and different rules and different equipment being allowed that it may be its own worst enemy. With that said, people do like to see and hear about heavy weight being lifted.
In conclusion:
I am stubborn, I've played sports all my life. In 2001, I went back and played college football @ age 46. I powerlift because it's an individual sport and because age and injuries have taken their toll on my speed and hand eye co-ordination!!
